Using Job Search Resources

A guide on how to conduct a job search efficiently using different job search databases.

What is College Central Network?

Before you consider using web resources to conduct a job search, you should consider utilizing the tools available with Tiffin University's College Central Network website.  College Central Network is an online job and document database sponsored by the university's Career Services department.  It is specialized for Tiffin University students and alumni.  It features a job search database as well as career development tools, which can assist in preparing documents for the professional world.  It divides its services and tools by the following demographics:

Student Services

If you currently a student at Tiffin University, you will want to use the Student Services page.  It contains the following features:

  • Schedule an appointment: You can make an appointment with a member of the Career Services staff to assist you in beginning your job search.
  • Announcements: This is where you can find information about new job postings, department updates, and professional development tips.
  • Events & programs: A calendar that shows upcoming Career Services events.

Student Services also contains a job database catered exclusively to Tiffin University students, a resume builder, an online portfolio program, and the opportunity to network with professionals in your field.

 

Accessing your College Central Network Account

Current students automatically have a pre-registered account with College Central Network, which is required in order to use the website.  Before you can use it, you must activate it through the College Central Network website.  To activate your account:

  1. Click on the "Activate" icon on the right side of the Student Services page.
  2. Follow the instructions on the activation window.  Your username should be your student ID, and your email address is your university email address (@tiffin.edu).  If you are unsure as to what your username or email are, contact Career Services.

Once you activate your account, you will be able to:

  • Search Tiffin University's exclusive job database, the Jobs Central national job board, and the Intern Central national internship board.
  • Create a resume with the website's resume builder program.
  • Create an online portfolio with Career Portfolio Central to demonstrate your most accomplished work.
  • Receive emails about programs, services, and career development topics.
  • Search the website's Mentoring Network to make connections with others in your field.

 

Searching for Jobs in College Central Network (Student)

To conduct a search for jobs with your account:

  1. Log into your College Central Network account and select the search option you want to use from your account dashboard.  Your options are My School's Jobs, Jobs Central, and Intern Central.
  2. Fill out the search fields with keywords and terms related to your field.  Jobs Central and Intern Central will have the exact same search fields, which are what (job title, company/organization, or keyword), where (state, city, and zip code), date posted, and job type (part-time, full-time, etc.).  If you are using My School's Jobs to view positions exclusively available to TU students and alumni, you can search by major, keyword, or job type.  You can also view all posted positions by clicking on the "View All Jobs" icon.
  3. View your search results.  You can read more information about a position by clicking on the job title.  It will take you to a link to the online application or company website.

Alumni Services

If you have recently graduated from Tiffin University, you can utilize the tools available to you on the alumni services page. Like the students services page, alumni can also access the same professional development and job search tools as long as they have activated their pre-registered account.  You also have the ability to make an appointment with a member of the Career Services staff, view recent announcements, and view upcoming events and programs.  If you never activated your College Central Network account during your time a student, you also have the option to create a new account.

 

Creating a New College Central Network Account (Alumni)

To create a new College Central Network account:

  1. Click on the "Create Account" on the right side of the alumni services page.
  2. Follow the instructions on the new account screen.  Your username should be your old student ID (everything before the @ symbol in your old university email address).  You will also need to create a password.  If you are unsure as to what your username should be, contact Career Services.
  3. Click "Continue" and fill out the fields that have a red asterisk next to them.  The fields will ask for basic information, such as your name, home address, education level, and job interests.  Once you fill out and submit the information, your account will be created and you will receive a confirmation email.

Once your account is created, you will be able to:

  • Search Tiffin University's exclusive job database, the Jobs Central national job board, and the Intern Central national internship board.
  • Create a resume with the website's resume builder program.
  • Create an online portfolio with Career Portfolio Central to demonstrate your most accomplished work.
  • Receive emails about programs, services, and career development topics.
  • Search the website's Mentoring Network to make connections with others in your field.

 

Searching for Jobs in College Central Network (Alumni)

To conduct a search for jobs with your account:

  1. Log into your College Central Network account and select the search option you want to use.  Your options are My School's Jobs, Jobs Central, and Intern Central.
  2. Fill out the search fields with keywords and terms related to your field.  Jobs Central and Intern Central will have the exact same search fields, which are what (job title, company/organization, or keyword), where (state, city, and zip code), date posted, and job type (part-time, full-time, etc.).  If you are using My School's Jobs to view positions exclusively available to TU students and alumni, you can search by major, keyword, or job type.  You can also view all posted positions by clicking on the "View All Jobs" icon.

Employer Services

Employer Services is meant for employers who are interested in submitting their open positions on College Central Network's job database.  Employers who are interested in posting on the job board must register with Career Services, which is reviewed by Career Services staff.  Click here for more information on Career Services' job posting policies.

Account Features

Whether you are an alum or current student, you will have access to the following features on your College Central Network account:

  • Dashboard: This is the "home page" of your account, where you will see recent job news and a summary of your career documents.
  • Search - My School's Jobs: Where you can search for jobs postings exclusive to Tiffin University students and alumni.
  • Search - Jobs Central: Where you can conduct a job search posted on the Jobs Central national job board.
  • Search - Intern Central: Where you can search for internships posted on the Intern Central national job board.
  • My Resumes: Where you can upload an existing resume to your account, or access the resume builder program to assist with building a professional resume.
  • My Career Portfolio: Where you can build, edit, and maintain a career portfolio with the Career Central Portfolio program.
  • Appointments: Where you can view and manage your scheduled appointments.
  • Events & Programs: Where you can view upcoming Career Services events.
  • Announcements: Where you can view recent announcements.
  • Career Mentoring Network: Where you can register to become a career mentor, expand your career network, and search for a career mentor.
  • Career Podcasts: Lets you view available College Central podcasts.  Many cover professional development topics, such as workplace etiquette, cover letters, and job/career fairs.
  • My Job Search History: Lets you view your recent job search history, review application submissions, referrals, and resume views.
  • Report Offers/Hires: Where you can report employers who offered you job positions.
  • My Account: Where you can change your account password and update your registration information.
  • Contacts: Provides contact information for those who can assist you in career development.
