Bibliophiles everywhere, rejoice! #BannedBooksWeek is upon us at last!

What is Banned Books Week?

Banned Books Week, above all else, is a celebration of reading. It is designed to embrace books which have historically been challenged, censored, or removed from libraries, publishers, and schools across the country because the ideas they present are deemed unpopular, unorthodox, or controversial. Banned Books Week exists to draw attention to acts of censorship and advocates for the freedom to seek and express new ideas, even if they are considered out of the norm.

Where can I learn more?

The American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom helps sponsor Banned Books Week programming across the country. You can read more about it on their website: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks

What can I do to participate?

Join us on Twitter this week using #BannedBooksWeek @PfeifferLibrary and tell us some of your favorite banned books. Check out our sidewalk graffiti on campus, and stop into the library to see our selection of banned books. Most importantly- find something exciting and read!

You can also become a YouTube star by submitting a video of yourself reading your favorite passage of a Banned Book!
