If you have recently registered for courses at Tiffin University, you probably had to search for classes through our course catalog. While the campus catalog is currently accessible electronically, it was originally only available in print. Our university archive holds several of these print catalogs, including one from the 1971-1972 academic year. The 1971-1972 catalog contains information about course offerings, campus organizations, campus living, financial aid opportunities, and scholarships. Not only was this a great piece of marketing material for visitors, but it was also great at providing a general overview of the university's programs to prospective students. Tiffin University's current course catalog is much larger than it used to be, but it is interesting to see where it all started. The current course catalog can be viewed here.
Tiffin University Course Catalog Cover, 1971-1972
Tiffin University's printed course catalogs were very portable. They were great for prospective students who wanted information to take home!
Course Catalog: Table of Contents
Each printed catalog has a page at the beginning that outlines its contents. This one contains the academic calendar, admissions policies, tuition and fees, financial aid and scholarship opportunities, student organizations on campus, curricula, course descriptions, and a list of faculty and staff. It is a lot to include in a small booklet!
Course Catalog: Campus Map
Campus maps were included in catalogs to help visitors and prospective students find their way around campus. Descriptions of the most significant campus buildings supplemented the maps as well.
Course Catalog: Description of Courses
Like the current course catalog, these course descriptions gave overviews of different courses. They were typically categorized by department. Each description included the topics covered in the course, credit hours, and prerequisites (if applicable). Some courses from this catalog may have evolved into new courses that you can still take today!
