Recommended 3D Design Tools

The resources listed below provide a range of design options should you wish to create a 3D model of your own. Each program listed below supports the ability to create a model completely ex nihilo or by modifying a design that you find in one of the repositories listed here in this guide. As always, if you have a favorite program that didn't make the list, feel free to suggest it here!

  • Tinkercad
    • Tinkercad "is a free web app for 3D design, electronics, and coding, trusted by over 50 million people around the world." 3D designs created in Tinkercad can be rendered in STL format and printed.
    • Free, but requires the creation of an account.
  • Blender
    • Blender is a "free and open-source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline -- modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation." 3D designs created in Blender can be rendered in STL format and printed.
