Five Quick Tips for College Students for Time Management
What is time management, if not the ability to use time effectively?

Set Goals
One of the most important steps in managing time is to know what you are using your time for. Something that anybody could use is to set goals and to identify those time wasters, which can keep you on a more efficient track. When you are setting goals, take a look at what you are spending your time on. For example, think about how long you spend on an app on your phone or scrolling through different platforms attempting to find a new movie to watch. If you notice that you are spending a great deal of time on these things, consider whether these activities are what you want to focus your efforts on.

Make Note of Deadlines
As students in college, we take several different classes at a time. Within each class, we have assignments, tests, and projects that all have different due dates. This can quickly become overwhelming, and it doesn’t have to be when you practice your time management. One thing that can be useful is to write down all the deadlines ahead and create a clear chart, put it on a calendar, or even on a piece of paper. This way, you can schedule time to study or complete the assignments when it is due.

Create A Schedule
One of the most effective practices that anybody will learn or find is to use a schedule to your advantage. You can set up a digital schedule using any number of digital platforms, but one that is especially useful (and connected to your Tiffin University login) is Google Calendar. Or, if you prefer to avoid technology, use a physical planner that you can write down everything in. Before setting this schedule, write down the perspective of what you want to include. This may involve social activities, class times, study time, family or friends time, athletic events, music, etc.

Use Checklists
Something that is very useful when bettering your time management is to use checklists. Two apps that are very helpful for many college students are their note or reminder apps on their phones or laptops. That way, your checklist is always with you. But some students also would rather write it down on paper. Once you find what you want to use, at the start of the week, write down what tasks you need to complete in that week and even use color coding if that can help you complete these tasks.

Reward Yourself
No matter what path you take in your time management direction, take time to reward yourself. Your rewards should combine with the time management goals that you have set. So once you complete that homework assignment or weekly tasks, have something to look forward to. Whether this is going for a walk, getting Chick-Fil-A, or watching a tv show on Netflix. Whatever brings you joy rewards you after all your hard work.
