What's New at Pfeiffer Library?

Flashback Friday: T.B.U. Student's Handbook

When you think of a university handbook, you might imagine an oversized book that contains every rule that students must follow.  While Tiffin University's current student handbook is seventy-two pages, that was not the case eighty years ago.  If that seems unbelievable, then take a look at the photographs below from the Tiffin Business University Student's Hand Book from 1937.  Published by Delta Sigma Kappa, the book welcomed new students to the university and summarized the campus code of conduct.  This included the "do's and don'ts" of being on campus, entrance requirements, rooming regulations, and entrance requirements for different Greek groups.  It even included a faculty and student directory, sports schedule, and space for a student to write out their class schedule.  It seems like a lot of information for such a small handbook, but it was a portable way for students to have the information they need!  If you are interested in viewing the university's current handbook for comparison, you can download it here.

"Tiffin Business University Student's Hand Book" (1937-1938)

This is the front cover of the T.B.U. Student's Hand Book for the 1937-1938 academic year.  It it the size of a pocketbook, meaning students could have carried it with them as they attended classes on campus.

"A Few Do's and Don'ts for the Juniors"

do's and don'ts

The first page lists the rules by which juniors should abide.  The second page provides a brief history of the university.  Many of the rules are common sense, but the wording of some of the rules is very interesting!

Entrance Requirements for Greek Groups

These pages list the entrance requirements for different Greek groups on campus.  Greek groups listed in this section include Delta Sigma Kappa, Sigma Omega Sigma, Alpha Iota, and Kappa Delta Phi.

These pages were meant for a student to write out their class schedule.  There would have been no excuse to be late for class!
