What's New at Pfeiffer Library?

Flashback Friday: Adult Student Orientation (1980s)

Welcome back, Tiffin University students!  We are very excited to have you back on campus with us.  The beginning of a new semester typically means the return of existing students.  However, there are always new students willing to join the campus community, even as adults!  The photos below demonstrate how Tiffin University promoted adult degree programs in the 1980s.  While most TU students attend some form of campus orientation, Pfeiffer Library hosted an orientation event exclusively for adult students in 1989.  The event hosted a special panel, where new students could meet with current adult students to learn about the college experience.  It was a great way for adult students to become acquainted with their classmates and learn more about campus services.  The goal of this orientation was to provide adult students with the proper knowledge to begin a successful academic career.

Tiffin University takes pride in every student, and we are glad that so many choose to further their education with us.  The library is no exception, and we are always here to support all students!

The Advertiser-Tribune marketed an adult student orientation event in its printed issue on January 18th, 1989.  It highlighted the event's panel, titled "What it is Really Like to Come to College as an Adult" where new students could interact with current adult students and gain perspective on adult college life.

This is the cover of a promotional brochure that prospective students could have received in the 1980s.  It specifically catered to adult students and the programs offered at the time.

The inside of the Adult Degree Program brochure contained important information, such as tuition costs, programs offered, transfer policies, and age requirements.  One of the most interesting policies in this brochure is the tuition costs for adults 55 and older.  They could have received a 50% discount on tuition!
