Be strong enough to stand alone, smart enough to know when you need help, and brave enough to ask for it.
The Student Success Workshop (SSW100) is a course designed to help you improve your academic performance. It is designed as a self-paced online course. This allows you to complete the assignments, assessments and related activities over the course of the term. Based on the structure, it is possible to complete the course in as little as 7-weeks but you are allowed to the full semester in which you are enrolled.
All learning is essentially self-learning.
While the main the main purpose of the course is to assist you with your academic skills, the course is designed to help you improve your personal and employment skills as well. Simply, we want you to be a success at whatever you chose to do. This course is about you and providing you with opportunities for self-learning. While this is run as a course, the most important grade will be based on what you put into to it and what you walk out of the course with.
When I went to register I didn't see the course on the available course list. Is it full?
No. The course is by invitation and recommendation only. Some students are required to complete the course as part of an academic recovery plan while others are recommended by advisors or other offices based on observed performances, assessed needs, or other factors.
I would like to take the course because I believe I could use the help. Is there someone I can talk to?
Yes. Speak with your academic advisor. Discuss with them why you would like to take the course and how you think that you would benefit. If they believe you should be enrolled they can add it to your schedule and notify the University Academic Support Office. Once they have added you, the UAS will contact Moodle Support to ensure you are enrolled.
I received my schedule and SSW100 was already on it. Why am I am being required to take it?
There could be several reasons. If you on an academic recovery plan, academic warning, or on probation it may be a requirement of your plan or academic status. For others it may be that your advisor, coach or other University official has recommended that you complete the course.
Does having to take this course mean I am a bad student?
NO. Just to be clear...this is not a punishment. SSW100 is designed to help you be more self-aware and academically prepared. Everybody can learn from the techniques in this course. The idea behind it is to work smarter, not harder. We want to help you achieve the success you wish to find. Using the strategies you will learn in this course you will be able to improve your self-awareness, use your strengths more effectively and improve areas that may slow your progress.
