Tech Tip Tuesday: Creating Your Grammarly Account!

by Luann Edwards on 2017-01-17T13:35:51-05:00 | 0 Comments

Happy Tuesday! This week's Tech Tip installment covers a resource near and dear to our hearts- Grammarly!

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a FREE software program licensed through Tiffin University. All you have to do is upload your paper (or copy/paste it in), and Grammarly:

- Checks your work for grammatical issues, identifies those issues, and explains WHY they are issues. This is something that spelling/grammar check in Microsoft Word will not do.

- Allows you to change the TYPE of assignment you're reviewing. The requirements for content and tone for a business email might differ from the requirements for a research paper. Grammarly lets you select the TYPE of assignment and looks for different things based on what you've selected. You can flip through various assignment types in Grammarly- change it as many times as you want without losing your work!

- Checks for web plagiarism. Grammarly provides suggestions for properly citing web sites used but not cited in your paper.

- Allows you to edit right on the screen. Upload your paper, make your corrections, and download it back to your storage device. Be careful you don't override any files that you don't want to lose!

Ready to sign up for your FREE Grammarly account? Follow these simple steps!

1- Go to http://www.grammarly.com/edu/students

2- Click Sign Up at the top of your screen.

3- Use your Tiffin University email address (the one that ends in @tiffin.edu).

If you are prompted for credit card information or an access code, please return to the steps listed above. This is the only route you can take to get to the FREE version of Grammarly. Any other steps and you'll be given a free trial which will eventually expire.

As always, if you have any questions, you can contact the library at library@tiffin.edu!
